CrossFit Confession

I’m a Crossfitter- for life…plain and simple. I’m sure you’ve heard lots of crazy stories about Crossfit and the people, but if you ever step inside a box you’ll quickly realize they’ve got it all wrong. I decided to step inside a box 12 months ago, and I’ll never step foot anywhere else.

From the very first day, the trainers made me feel welcome. Our Coaches were friendly and eager to help us in any way they could. Many people tell you Crossfit pushes intensity over form & technique but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. For one you have to take an Onramp class which lasts a couple weeks to teach you proper form and technique for weight lifting. Unless you take the class you are not allowed to start working out. There was a lot I learned from this class- and I am not new to exercise. I previously did a local boot camp program for almost 2 years but I needed a change because it was becoming routine, repetitive, and plain boring. Crossfit managed to change that. No workout is EVER boring!

As regards the workouts, there is nothing I don’t love. For one they always do a full warm up focusing on muscles that need to be properly stretched for the day’s WOD, and a full cool down. The workout itself is usually no more that 20 minutes (if that) but it is grueling and intense. You will hate it as you are doing it and question yourself a thousand times as to why on earth you would put your self through this- but in the end, you’ll love every minute of it!!! And you’ll become addicted- you’ll come day after day, and the day you can’t make it, you’ll cry because you miss it so much….

Contrary to popular belief, you are not pushed beyond your limits. You have multiple talented trainers walking around making sure everyone’s technique is right and if they see you doing something wrong they will assist you. It’s an environment that is constantly motivating and everyone there- from trainers to crossfitters- makes you feel welcome and proud of your accomplishments. From the 12 months I’ve been going I’ve noticed a drastic change in myself- my strength has increased 100% and I’m in the best shape I’ve ever been!

So give that old treadmill the boot and step inside Crossfit- once you do, you’ll never go back!
